CALGARY, Alta. – Twenty-four players will look to bring home gold for Canada’s National Women’s Team at the upcoming 2016 4 Nations Cup in Vierumäki, Finland, Nov. 1-5.

Canada’s roster includes three goaltenders, seven defencemen and 14 forwards that were chosen following Canada’s National Women’s Team Fall Festival from Sept. 12-18 in Calgary.

In its 21st year, the 4 Nations Cup will bring together the four top women’s hockey countries in the world – Canada, Finland, Sweden, and the United States. Canada will take to the ice first in an overseas exhibition game against Finland on Oct. 30, and opens the tournament against Finland on Nov. 1. The red-and-white also faces Sweden (Nov. 2) and the United States (Nov. 4) in preliminary-round action. The bronze- and gold-medal games will be played on Nov. 5. A complete tournament schedule can be found here.

“This is a proven group of players that have all represented Canada on the international stage,” said Laura Schuler, head coach of Canada’s National Women’s Team. “This event marks another opportunity for our players to show us they have what it takes to wear the Maple Leaf, and we are looking forward to hitting the ice in Finland as we look to reclaim gold.”

Canada’s National Women’s Team roster for the 2016 4 Nations Cup includes:

  • 15 players who won a silver medal with Canada’s National Women’s Team at the 2016 IIHF Women’s World Championship (Agosta, Bram, Davis, Fortino, Howe, Jenner, Johnston, Larocque, Maschmeyer, Poulin, Rattray, Rougeau, Spooner, Watchorn, Wakefield);
  • 13 players who won a gold medal with Canada’s National Women’s Team at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia (Agosta, Daoust, Fortino, Irwin, Jenner, Johnston, Lacasse, Larocque, Poulin, Rougeau, Spooner, Watchorn, Wakefield);

  • One player who will make their debut with Canada’s National Women’s Team at the 2016 4 Nations Cup (Stacey).

Players will continue to be evaluated with their club teams during the 2016-17 season, leading up to the world championship next April.

Since the debut of the 4 Nations Cup in 1996, Canada’s National Women’s Team has won the gold medal a total of 14 times (1996, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2013, 2014), and earned silver on six occasions (1997, 2003, 2008, 2011, 2012, 2015).
