Volunteer Positions


Medical

Medical positions required throughout the tournament include Doctors, Orthopedic Surgeons, Dentists and Therapists. All Medical roles will report directly to the Chief Medical Officer

Off-Ice Officials

Off-ice officials include goal judges, penalty box attendants, score clock operators, and statisticians. Statistics will be tracked using the IIHF statistics software package. Volunteers for this role will be required to have past experience working in or volunteering in similar roles.

Scouts & Media Services

Volunteers will support all media operations throughout the venue. This position includes a range of media activity including media workroom, press box, broadcast, mix zone and statistics distribution scouts lounge supervison. Individuals prepared to learn the ins and outs of media operations and work in a fast-paced environment will find this role suited for them.

Team Services

Volunteers will provide front-line support for the teams at the competition and training venues. Volunteers will assist in dressing room set-up by stocking beverages, equipment supplies, and snacks. They will assist in the coordination of team laundry and equipment transfers. This is an all-hands-on-deck, do-anything-to-ensure-success kind of role. Previous experience assisting teams in a similar capacity is preferred.

Transportation

Volunteers will drive clients such as VIPs and media between venues. Vehicles will be SUVs supplied by the championship. Individuals applying to work in transportation will be required to submit a driver's abstract and have a valid license

Volunteer Operations

Volunteers will support the execution of the volunteer program for all event volunteers. This position includes a range of volunteer activities including training sessions, lounge supervision and operations, and the clothing program. Volunteers Operations are also responsible for food and beverage services and will collectively support all venues with meal deliveries and manage snack stations in lounges, etc. Volunteers will ensure the food plans are properly executed.

Registration FAQs


Q: What is the time commitment required to volunteer?

A: All volunteers need to be prepared to commit a minimum of 4 shifts over the course of the event. Shift length may vary from five hours (minimum) to eight hours, depending on the role.

Q: Why is my volunteer offer only conditional?

A: Volunteer offers are conditional upon the successful completion of the screening process. All volunteers will be required to complete a criminal record check and sign the Universal Code of Conduct to Prevent and Address Maltreatment in Sport consent form. Some volunteer positions may require additional security screening depending on the requirements of the positions (e.g. driver’s abstract). Volunteers will be provided with the information required to complete the security screening(s) once they have accepted their volunteer offer.

Q: What if I need to withdraw from the process?

A: We understand that things come up in life and you may need to cancel. We ask that you notify us as soon as possible to withdraw your application by emailing[email protected].

Q: Is training mandatory?

A: Applicants who receive and accept a volunteer offer must attend the training and orientation session. This is to ensure they are best prepared for their volunteer duties. Volunteers will also receive online training material prior to the training sessions.

Q: When will I receive my uniform and accreditation?

A: Volunteer uniforms and accreditation will be distributed at the first shift

Q: Will accommodations be provided for volunteers?

A: Accommodations will not be provided; volunteers are responsible for their own accommodations, if required.

Q: Is there an age requirement for volunteers?

A: All volunteers must be at least 18 years of age as of July 1, 2024, and those wishing to volunteer in a driving capacity must be 25 years of age or older.

Q: Is it possible to volunteer, even if I don’t reside in Canada?

A: Yes! Nationality or place of residence is not important, but please note that travel expenses and accommodation requirements are at the expense of the volunteer. We recommend you refrain from making arrangements until you receive a volunteer offer in order to confirm your position as a member of the volunteer team. You will also be required to submit a criminal record check from your country of origin or residence in either English or French.

Q: How do I update my volunteer profile?

A: If you have had a change in information, such as updated contact information, we need to know! Please ensure the information you have provided on your volunteer profile is always up to date. It can be accessed here, and you will be required to enter the username and password you created during registration. If you can’t recall that information, please email us at [email protected].

Q: When will I receive a detailed schedule of my shifts?

A: Volunteer schedules will be published on your volunteer profile in July 2024. Schedules are made according to volunteer availability and event needs. Please ensure your availability is up to date in your volunteer profile.

Q: Will I be able to watch Hlinka Gretzky Cup games as a volunteer?

A: Volunteers may use their uniform and accreditation to access their roles and event venues, only when scheduled to be on shift. Outside of their volunteer commitment, volunteers are invited to purchase their own tickets to take in the 2024 Hlinka Gretzky Cup.
