Over the past few years, students from the Hockey Canada Skills Academy at École Saint-Dominique-Savio, an elementary and secondary school in Owen Sound, Ont., have benefited from the services of Brad Tiley from OT Conditioning.

Tiley, a former NHLer and assistant coach with the OHL’s Owen Sound Attack, opened the doors of his fitness centre to the students, who worked on their physical training fitness in addition to learning more about hockey-specific exercises.

With the help of his assistant Connor Patton, captain of the Walkerton Hawks of the Provincial Junior Hockey League, Tiley conducted on-ice sessions focused on stick-handling and individual offensive techniques.

With the percentage of players who will make it to the professional level very small, it is important to talk about the various careers available in hockey. On Jan. 23, Fred Wallace from Bayshore Broadcasting had lunch with the students to discuss different careers available in sports media (journalist, radio announcer, play-by-play, analyst, etc.).

Wallace is not only a renowned sports journalist in the region, he has been the voice of the Owen Sound Attack for many years. As he told the students, you never know where your dreams will lead you.

The time volunteered to the École Saint-Dominique-Savio program was greatly appreciated.
