CZECHS BEATS SLOVAKS, FINISH FIFTH AT HLINKA GRETZKY CUP

EDMONTON, Alta. – Marcel Barinka had a hat trick and an assist to lead the offence, helping the Czech Republic close out its 2018 Hlinka Gretzky Cup with an 8-3 win over Slovakia in the fifth-place game Friday.
Adam Najman scored twice and Michal Teply added three assists for the Czechs, who finished with a massive 58-28 advantage in shots and pulled away with six of the last seven goals in the final 26 minutes.
Filip Prikryl, Jonas Peterek and Martin Lang had the other goals for the Czechs, while Michal Mrazik, Maxim Cajkovic and Martin Chromiak responded for the Slovaks.
Cajkovic tied the game for Slovakia early in the second period, but Peterek and Najman put the Czech Republic ahead for good in the final six minutes of the middle frame.
Barinka finished his hat trick with goals just over five minutes apart before the nine-minute mark of the third period, scoring the second hat trick of the tournament, and second of the day at the Downtown Community Arena – Patrik Puistola netted three for Finland in the seventh-place game.
David Borak went the distance in goal for the Slovaks, turning in a terrific 50-save performance. Jan Skorpik got the win for the Czechs after making 25 saves.
