CANADA EEKS OUT WIN AGAINST UNITED STATES VANCOUVER, BC – Canada has claimed another chapter of the historic Canada-United States rivalry. Paul Rosen (Thornhill, ON) made 13 saves and Billy Bridges (Summerside, PEI) scored both goals as Canada’s National Sledge Team defeated the U.S. 2-1 on Wednesday evening at UBC Thunderbird Arena. The game was played before a raucous crowd of 1,257. Bridges got Canada started in the first period with a pair of goals to give his team a 2-0 lead. Bridges, Canada’s leading goal scorer with four goals so far, sniped a beauty at 8:25 of the first when he went in alone on American goaltender Steve Cash and snapped a shot top corner. The United States cut into Canada’s lead in the second, when Chris Manns tipped a point-shot past Rosen at 10:59. Canada held on in the third, though, thanks to a great defence. Rosen stopped each of the five American shots that came his way and Canada returned to the strong attack that worked in the opening frame. The Canadians will face Japan on Thursday, with both teams going into the game with 2-0 records and first place on the line. The winner will earn the top seed for the semifinals Saturday. |
