UNITED STATES SHUTS OUT GERMANY

VANCOUVER, BC – The United States has clinched the third seed at the 2009 Hockey Canada Cup.

Josh Pauls scored in the first period and Taylor Chace added an insurance goal in the second as the U.S. beat Germany 2-0 on Thursday in the final preliminary game for both teams.

The U.S. ended the preliminary round with a 1-2 record, while Germany finished 0-3.

Both teams will move on to semifinal play on Saturday, with the United States facing the loser of Thursday night's game between Canada and Japan and Germany taking on the winner.
