BOWDEN’S THREE POINTS LEAD CANADA TO FIRST WIN

NAGANO, Japan – Canada’s National Sledge Team is into the win column at the 4 Nations sledge tournament after a 5-1 win over Norway on Wednesday at Big Hat Arena.

Bradley Bowden led the way with two goals and an assist, all in the second period, to lead the way offensively as Canada opened up a 4-1 lead after two periods. The Canadians held a decisive 11-1 advantage in shots on goal in the middle frame, and 26-5 overall.

Canada got into a little penalty trouble early, taking three minors in the game’s first nine minutes, but was able to hold the Norwegians to just one shot on goal in the first period.

After a scoreless first, the floodgates opened in period number two – Marc Dorion got the scoring started with an unassisted effort just over two minutes into the period but Helge Bjoernstad equalized for Norway three minutes later, converting on a penalty shot.

But Bowden took over after that, scoring at 10:25 to restore the one-goal lead and setting up Billy Bridges for an insurance goal just 27 seconds later. Bowden finished his big period with his second goal in the dying seconds of the period.

Jeremy Booker rounded out the scoring just past the 10-minute mark of the third period, wrapping up Canada’s third win in as many tries against Norway this season.

Canada looks to wrap up a spot in Friday’s gold medal game when it faces the host Japanese on Thursday at 4:30 a.m. EST/1:30 a.m. PST.
