CANADA CONCLUDES PRELIMINARY ROUND WITH WIN OVER JAPAN OSTRAVA, Czech Republic – Another game, another shutout for Canada at the 2009 IPC Sledge Hockey World Championship. Canada’s National Sledge Team picked up its third-straight shutout on Tuesday, blanking Japan 7-0. With the victory, Canada finishes first in Group A and moves on to play the United States in semifinal action (Thursday, 10 a.m. ET), a game that can be seen live via webcast at www.paralympicsport.tv. Brad Bowden (Orton, Ont.) and Adam Dixon (Midland, Ont.) led Canada’s offence on Tuesday, with each player scoring two goals. Paul Rosen (Thornhill, Ont.) earned the shutout and Billy Bridges (Summerside, P.E.I.), Marc Dorion (Bourget, Ont.) and Greg Westlake (Oakville, Ont.) scored single goals. Canada (3-0) is the defending champion at the IPC Sledge Hockey World Championship, having won the 2008 tournament in Massachusetts. Canada’s players will have an off-day on Wednesday but will hit the ice to practice in preparation for Thursday’s semifinal. The last time Canada met the United States in tournament play was on March 1, when Canada defeated the U.S. 2-1 in a shootout, giving it the gold medal at the 2009 Hockey Canada Cup in Vancouver, B.C. |
