| RED STRIKES FIRST, BUT WHITE EARNS INTERSQUAD WIN TORONTO, Ont. – Katy Josephs (Cochrane, Alta.) opened the scoring just 1:58 after the opening face-off, but that would be the only lead of the night for Red, as White cruised to a 6-2 win on the opening night of intersquad action at the National Women’s Under-18 Team selection camp on Sunday. Alexis Crossley (Cole Harbour, N.S.) tied the game on a White power play midway through the period before Cydney Roesler (Stittsville, Ont.) and Kaitlyn Tougas (Thunder Bay, Ont.) set up Kristine Grenier (St. Leon, Man.) to make it 2-1 after 20 minutes. White’s Laura Stacey (Kleinburg, Ont.) and put the puck on the top shelf to make it 3-1 a few minutes into the second, with Shannon MacAulay (Mt. Herbert, P.E.I./Î.-P.-É.) netting her first of two in the game midway through the period to make it 4-1 for her team. Gina Repaci (Etobicoke, Ont.) gave Red its second goal of the night to narrow the gap to 4-2 before the period was up, but it just wasn’t enough. MacAulay’s second of the game made it 5-2 at the 5:33 mark of the third period before Michela Cava (Thunder Bay, Ont.) tapped a rebound past Brianna Piper (Oakville, Ont.) to round out the scoring just three minutes later. Piper finished with 31 saves in the Red goal, while her White counterpart, Elaine Chuli (Waterford, Ont.), stopped 23 of the 25 shots directed her way. |
