BRITTNI MOWAT EARNS SHUTOUT EN ROUTE TO PEMBINA VALLEY’S SECOND ESSO CUP WIN CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – Jessica Kaminsky (LaSalle, Man.) and Chelsea VanDeynze (Somerset, Man.) both contributed a goal and an assist to the scoreboard, while netminder Brittni Mowat (Glenboro, Man.) made 19 saves to help Pembina Valley (West) shutout Saguenay (Quebec) 4-0 and earn its second win in as many days Monday afternoon at the 2012 Esso Cup. More than 500 schools kids filled the stands at the CARI Complex to cheer for some of the top female Midget teams from across the country, watching in anticipation as defenceman VanDeynze accepted a pass from Jessica Kaminsky (La Salle, Man.) to open the scoring midway through the first. Kaminsky and VanDeynze connected again late in the second, this time with Kaminsky scorning on a nice pass from VanDeynze. Pembina Valley captain Madison Hutchinson (Manitou, Man.) followed up at 14:28 in the period, sending the puck flying past Saguenay goaltender Émy St-Jean (St-Bruno, Que.) to make it a three goal lead going into intermission. Brooke Drummond (Holland, Man.) sealed the deal for Pembina Valley in the first minute of the third, making it a 4-0 final over Saguenay. Despite a tough loss, St-Jean had a great game between the posts with 38 saves total. Mowat made 19 saves and earned her second shutout at this year’s Esso Cup, Canada’s National Female Midget Championship. Pembina Valley will look for its third win of the tournament when the Hawks face off against Halifax Metro Boston Pizza (Atlantic) at 4 p.m. AT, while Saguenay will take on 2010 Esso Cup gold medallists the Thunder Bay Queens (Ontario) at noon AT, both on Tuesday at the CARI Complex in Charlottetown.
