Billy Bridges was credited with the game-winning marker late in the third period after an American forward scored on his own goal, giving Canada a victory and a two-game sweep over the U.S. Canada moved to 14-1 in 2008-09 with the win.

Billy Bridges notched the game-winning goal with just 42 seconds left on the clock as Canada opened a two-game series with the U.S. with a win. Canadian captain Jean Labonté celebrated his 40th birthday by setting up Bridges’ winner.
