Capital Area Recreation Inc., better known as the CARI Complex, is Charlottetown's newest and most
comprehensive athletic facility.
The CARI Complex’s arena facility, known as MacLauchlan Arena, will once again serve as the home for the
World Sledge Hockey Challenge in 2009 after having successfully hosted the event in 2008. The
state-of-the-art facility offers two NHL-sized ice surfaces, with a combined total of 12 dressing rooms, an
on-site skate sharpening company and a meeting room and hospitality room that overlook each ice surface.
Located on the University of Prince Edward Island campus, the CARI Complex is a short distance from
Charlottetown International Airport, hotels and the downtown core. The facility has hosted major hockey
championships and national team training camps. The most recent events held at the facility are the 2008
World Sledge Hockey Challenge, 2008 Esso Women’s National Hockey Championship and 2008 National Sledge Team
training camp.
