Tessa Bonhomme, a 2010 Olympic Winter Games gold medallist and member of Canada’s National Women’s Team for the 2010 4 Nations Cup, gives HockeyCanada.ca her point-of-view from St. John’s and Clarenville, N.L. Sunday, November 14, 1010 Well, our job in St John's is officially done. We came, we saw and we conquered, and we couldn't ask for anything more from the loving communities that are St John's and Clarenville, Newfoundland and Labrador. I'm glad we were able to pull off a win for you all, not that I ever doubted we would, but it makes it much more sweet being surrounded by such a lively crowd and loving bunch! Thank you so much for being great hosts and representing the country of Canada with class. Having met many of you polite Canadian hockey fans, I can't help but give you all a little shout-out. As we were sitting outside the rink after pregame skate Saturday, a very shy but excited young lady by the name of Hannah walked by us with a hockey card. Brand new to the age of three (just turned on Nov. 11), she held on to her dad tight and we harassed her with questions about her age and the outfit she was wearing. Needless to say, she left our conversation holding onto a signed mini stick given to her as a birthday gift. Hopefully we made her day a little more special, as she helped make ours a little brighter. I'm not just saying these things to say them; we truly do appreciate your support and devotion towards our team. I thought I was writing this blog for my friends and family back home who couldn't make it out for the tournament. I was very surprised when I was approached by a woman before our final game (in the ladies room) who thanked me for the insider point of view I was giving in my blog. I couldn't help but walk away with a big smile knowing someone other than my sister (and Anne Apps) was reading my blog! Anyway, it’s time to say farewell! Thanks again St John's and Clarenville; I look forward to my visit back here (how could I not return)! May the road rise to meet you.
Cheers to you all! Chat soon, Tess Twitter: @tessab25 |
