Hockey Canada, in partnership with Hockey Newfoundland and Labrador, will be hosting an ESSO Fun Day for female youth in the St. John's area who want to get into the game. Girls will have the opportunity to give hockey a try in a fun and positive environment, while learning the basic skills and rules of the game. Date: Thursday, November 11, 2010 To register for the ESSO Fun Day, please CLICK HERE. Hockey Canada and Hockey Newfoundland and Labrador are also working together to promote female hockey through several other programs taking place in conjunction with the 2010 4 Nations Cup, set for November 9-13 in St. John’s and Clarenville, N.L. One such program, for higher level female hockey players, is the Atlantic Skills Challenge, featuring seven of the top Bantam-level athletes and one female coach from all four Hockey Canada branches in Atlantic Canada. The 28 players and four coaches will participate in both on- and off-ice skill testing and compete in a series of exciting three-on-three games at both the Mile One Centre and the Twin Rinks in St. John’s on Thursday, November 12 and Friday, November 13. Come check it out! Additionally, a lucky handful of young female hockey players will have the chance to participate in special activities before and during 4 Nations Cup games, through the McDonald’s In The Line Up program and a series of mini-games that will take place at intermissions. These unique programs are sure to inspire Team Canada dreams in today’s future stars of the game! Finally, Hockey Newfoundland and Labrador, in partnership with St. John’s Minor Hockey Association, is hosting a female hockey tournament for under-15, under-17 and under-20 age groups, which will run from November 11-14 in St. John’s. The 2010 4 Nations Cup is being held in St. John’s and Clarenville to help Hockey Newfoundland and Labrador celebrate its 75th anniversary. |
